Parks' Fly Shop is a small shop, but it's stuffed with plenty of supplies for the visiting angler. Stop into our shop with nothing but a credit card, and we can fit you out with some of the best gear money can buy, though you'll have to put the stains and patches on your new waders yourself.
Please note: our custom flies (and new custom flies) are discussed elsewhere.
Parks' Fly Shop offers several products either found nowhere but our shop or originating here.
Chief among these is our Magic Sauce fly floatant, a liquid floatant that's ideal for larger dry flies. We sell Magic Sauce both in small bottles ideal for a vest pocket and in half-liter guide bottles. We ship these guide bottles to guides from Idaho to Michigan, and the small bottles are also sold at Streamside Orvis, in Traverse City, Michigan.
Richard Parks' second book, Fishing Yellowstone National Park, now in its third edition from well-known angling books publisher The Lyons Press, is unique among the Yellowstone-area guidebooks in that it serves primarily as an access guide, giving detailed instructions on how to access all important waters in Yellowstone Park and in the Park's immediate area, with maps, trails, and other information. Learn more about it.
Looking for a gift or souvenir? We carry tech-fabric angling shirts, fleece pullovers, and a wide range of ball caps emblazoned with the Parks' Fly Shop drift boat logo. Of particular note are the XL-fit hats perfect for those of us with big noggins (like Head Guide Walter Wiese, who's writing this); not many shops carry such hats. We also have logo fly boxes and window stickers.
Former PFS guide and current PFS fly tyer Doug Korn's DK Dubbing is a line of synthetic dubbing blends suitable for general purpose fly tying. We use it on a wide range of our custom flies, and its price is comparable to more widely-available products that don't quite match the colors we need. Interested in a special blend? Doug can make you a sandwich bag full at a very attractive price.
We carry only flies suitable for use in our region. In addition to our custom flies, which make up around 40% of our stock, we carry flies by River Run, Montana Fly Company, Rainy's, Umpqua Feather Merchants, Solitude, Riverborn, and Idylwilde. If there's a particular fly pattern you're looking for that we don't stock, we'd be happy to see if we can get any from one of these wholesalers. We also carry a small selection of spinners, plugs, etc. for the spin-fishers in your group, though none of our staff fishes with spinning gear, so our advice on what's working might be limited.
Our primary fly rod lines are Orvis and Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO). Since we are primarily a destination shop, we generally carry the low to mid-level lines by these companies, but we can order any high end rod you would like and we do always keep a few premo Orvis Helios and Hydros rods in stock (Walter, Wilson, and Ben all fish with these lines). We also stock a few rods by Cortland and some low-end rods (under the theory that any fly rod beats no fly rod). We stock reels by Orvis, TFO, and Cortland, as well as a few cheap options. If you purchase a full fly outfit from us, we take an additional 10% off, which puts our prices in the "sub-Cabelas" range if you add it all up. In addition to fly tackle, we stock a small amount of low-end spinning tackle, including full pushbutton combos in the $15 range that are great for your 6 year-old to destroy while you're on vacation.
We carry both floating and sink-tip lines by Cortland and floating lines by Orvis. We carry Orvis, Cortland, and RIO leaders and tippet material, and tippet material by Maxima. For the spinning crowd, we carry Stren, Trilene, and no-name monofilament.
We carry a wide range of angling accessories, including several different options for meeting the nontoxic (non-lead) requirement for added weight for fishing in Yellowstone Park. While the small size of the shop means we don't have much room for fly tying materials, we do carry some Whiting Hackle, a fairly complete range of Dai-Riki hooks and brass beads, and some products we use on a lot of in our own tying that aren't necessarily available everywhere, such as the flexible spandex material we now use on the bodies of many of our dry flies. For those heading into Yellowstone Park, we offer the most attractive prices on bear spray of any business in Gardiner, plus optics, a variety of fishing and other books of interest to those visiting the area, a full selection of USGS quad maps, hiking maps for Yellowstone Park and the Gallatin National Forest, some popular calibers of ammunition, Buck and Gerber knives, and a variety of other odds and ends.
