Below are hotlinks to some articles on fishing our area of operations and on fly fishing and fly tying in general. This page is in its infancy, but we hope eventually to have a wide variety of articles archived here, both reprints by Walter Wiese and others and new articles designed to help our clients prepare for and make the most of their trips to the area. Please click on the links to view the articles, which will appear in a new window.
Spring Fishing on the Yellowstone River: The Yellowstone offers excellent fishing in the spring, primarily by fishing streamers for aggressive fish eager to get over their winter blues and by matching the two marquee pre-runoff hatches, the Blue-winged Olive and the Mother's Day Caddis. Adapted from a pair of stories W. Wiese did last year for Fishing and Hunting News. Posted 01/08
Fall Fishing in Yellowstone Country: If you are willing to put up with cold and often wet weather, fishing the Yellowstone region from mid-September until mid-November can bring some of the best fishing of the year, whether you're seeking dry fly fishing for picky trout, want to rip streamers through deep eddies, or are seeking large, fall-run brown trout. Better yet, area waters are much less crowded in the fall than earlier in the season. Posted 08/07
Drift Boat Fishing Primer: Fishing from a drift boat is different than fishing on foot, and the Yellowstone in particular requires some adjustments. This article is designed to shorten your learning curve when going on a guided float trip, thereby increasing your odds of having a great day of fishing. This piece is particularly suited to first-time clients or anglers who have floated tailwater rivers like the Green, Missouri, or Big Horn, which are very different from the Yellowstone. Posted 05/07
