The great outdoors and fishing have always been a driving force in my life.  As a child I went pan fishing and bullhead fishing at night with my dad and grandfather.  In later years I spent all spring, summer and fall on Lake Ontario, trolling for trout and salmon and then ice fished all winter.  Then one day I stumbled into fly fishing by going to a fly tying demonstration and was totally captivated by it.  It wasn’t long before I was casting and presenting my own hand tied flies to the local brown trout.  These days you’ll find me fly fishing our inland trout streams and tributaries in my home state of New York.  I enjoy both the artistic skills of fly tying as well as the technical challenges in bringing the fish to hand.  If I have one regret it is that I didn’t discover fly fishing sooner in life.  Not to worry though, I fully intend to make up for lost fly fishing time every chance I get here in Montana.

I am married with two grown boys, one recently married and the other in college. I have recently retired from the Eastman Kodak Co. after 33 years of service and now have the time to pursue my fly fishing passion.  Fly fishing Yellowstone National Park and it’s surrounding waters has long been a dream of mine, not wanting to just visit the area but to find a way to truly participate and experience it through fly fishing. As the newest member of the Parks’ Fly Shop team I believe I have found the pathway to realize my dream.

Doug will largely be in the shop this season, but we expect to see him guiding some trips by the beginning of July and full days by August. --Walter
