Other Guides

When Richard, Walter, and Ben are already booked or are too exhausted from recent trips to take another, we usually turn to our three part-time independent guides.  All three are held to the same high standards as our other guides, but for a variety of reasons they do not guide full time for us.  Brief bios follow.

Phil Herne

Phil Herne is the longest-serving member of the PFS guide corps.  He began working for Parks' Fly Shop in the late 1980s, and for a time served as Head Guide.  A skilled carpenter, he now works full-time for the Park Service, building the boardwalks and other structures visitors to Yellowstone utilize on their visits.  He guides for us only on weekends.  Except for a handful of old clients, he guides only when our other guides are unavailable.  Phil Herne is not available for requests except from clients who have previously fished with him.

Don McCue

Don McCue lives in Paradise Valley.  He has been teaching others to fly fish and tie flies since high school, and has been guiding full-time for several seasons.  For his first few years as a guide, he worked 100+ days for Dome Mountain Ranch, but began working as an independent last season.  2008 will be his first season running trips for Parks' Fly Shop.  Don is not available for requests through Parks' Fly Shop.

Rob Olson

Rob Olson began working for Parks' Fly Shop in 2006 on an emergency basis when Walter Wiese went down with a knee injury, leaving us with more bookings than guides.  He operates his own independent guide service based out of Bozeman in the summer and works at Bridger Bowl in the winter.  Rob is not available for requests through Parks' Fly Shop.

Others

Former Parks' Fly Shop full-timers Pat Straub and Phil Sgamma now usually guide elsewhere.  Straub has his own outfitting business on the Missouri River and Sgamma is guiding on the Snake drainage in Idaho.  Pat occasionally guides for us (or we guide for him) during the summer, while Phil is available in the fall when we have large group bookings.
